Dr. Rahul Shrivastav is a transformative academic leader and innovator in interdisciplinary education, academic excellence, and the future of higher education.
As Interim Vice President for Student Success, Shrivastav oversees efforts to provide students with the tools, support, and environment they need to thrive academically, personally, and professionally. This includes focusing on making an IU education more accessible, improving customer service efforts for current students, prospective students, and their families, and efforts to ensure an IU education prepares students for productive and rewarding careers.
Shrivastav most recently served as Provost of the Indiana University Bloomington campus where he led 17 schools and more than 3,000 faculty while advancing programs that prepared students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Since returning to his alma mater in 2022, he has advanced a bold, student-centered vision that expands academic excellence, empowers faculty, and drives interdisciplinary collaboration.
Under Shrivastav’s leadership as provost, IU Bloomington saw record enrollment and applications, the creation of 25 new academic programs and the recruitment of dozens of leading faculty. Shrivastav also guided efforts to modernize teaching and research facilities, establish interdisciplinary research groups, expand experiential learning, and spark innovative partnerships with industry.
Prior to returning to IU, Shrivastav held tenured faculty appointments and leadership roles at Carnegie R1 institutions, including the University of Florida, Michigan State University, and the University of Georgia. At UGA, he was Vice President for Instruction, leading more than 20 academic and student success units and helping elevate national rankings, retention, and graduation rates. His scholarship and leadership have earned numerous honors, including recognition as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, as well as multiple best-paper awards at major scientific conferences.
A distinguished scholar and innovator, Shrivastav has authored over 200 publications and presentations, contributed more than 20 invention disclosures with 10 awarded patents, and co-founded a startup that translated speech technologies into real-world applications. Throughout his career, he has secured more than $15 million in research funding from NIH, VA, and other federal agencies, advancing healthcare technology and rehabilitation science worldwide. Shrivastav earned his Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Indiana University Bloomington and holds his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from the University of Mysore, India.
