Raptor: Transcript Processing Tool
Indiana University is using AI-enabled tools to create a more efficient and accurate transcript experience for students and families.
High school and college transcripts are critical to the admissions process. At IU, undergraduate admissions transcripts are received, stored in OnBase, and reviewed and entered by University Enrollment Services (UES) into the system of record, PeopleSoft. Over time, this process has evolved through the use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) templates and XML imports to reduce manual entry and improve accuracy.
In 2024, IU expanded this work by implementing Raptor, a SmartPanda AI tool, to document transcript receipt, extract academic data, and import information directly into PeopleSoft. This approach limits manual handling and enables the UES team to focus on quality assurance rather than data entry.
The Raptor implementation has proceeded in phases, initially supporting college transcripts and later extending to high school transcripts, with ongoing enhancements to enable course-level data extraction and analysis to support admissions decisions and student success insights.
